About Curtin Engineering Faculty

Curtin Engineering Faculty exists to nurture cross-disciplinary teaching and research, thereby providing educational and service benefits to our students that its size permits. An example of this is our unique Engineering Foundation Year first-year program, taken by all Bachelor of Engineering students, that is the 2006 recipient of the National Carrick Award for "First Year Experience" . We offer a range of Bachelor of Engineering (four-year) and Bachelor of Technology (three-year) programs. We also offer Double Degree programs with other disciplines. Curtin Engineering's aim is to provide an experience that results in graduates who have a solid theoretical base, have a strong practical focus, are culturally astute and are professionally accomplished. All of the Faculty's Bachelor's degree programs (Electrical Power, Electronics and Communications, Computer Systems, Mechanical, Mechatronic, Chemical, Civil, Computer Systems and Networking) are fully accredited by Engineers Australia and recognised in overseas countries through the Washington Accord. Our graduates are highly regarded by industry and the professions as is evidenced by very high employment rates. The Faculty has approximately 1,500 equivalent full-time students, 150 academic and support staff.

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering offers a Bachelor degree in Electrical Power Engineering offering subjects in Electric Power Transmission and Distribution engineering, Power Systems Analysis, Power Systems Protection, Renewable Energy principles, Renewable Energy systems, Electrical Systems, Electric Machines, Power Electronics, Power Electronic and Drives, Instrumentation and Control, Control systems and Electric Utility Engineering. The Department also offer a suit of coursework postgraduate programs in Electric Utility Engineering as well as higher degree by research program in power engineering. The Power engineering program at Curtin is one of the three programs in Australia which is supported by the Australian Power Institute (API) and is the only program which is supported by both the API and the Australian Power Academy .
